THREAD: I want GCs to know that asking dysphoric youth to "accept themselves", requires us to unpack the burden of a lifetime of societal influences + individualized pain. Without the guarantee of happiness. It's not necessarily a better option for all– it's not that simple. 1/
Asking adolescents to handle such an extremely difficult level of introspection is an intense demand. Arguably, even induced dysphoria may actually be a lifelong condition for some. 2/
Yes we should abolish gender. But for those of us who have grown up through it all– is it really worth your time to shame us for doing our best to cope? Is it really moral to place one solution on a pedestal over the other? Especially w/ unhappy individuals in BOTH cases? 3/3
*It's pretty ridiculous to put the pressure on INDIVIDUALS who are greatly suffering under gender to singlehandedly dismantle it. We should be poised to take it down from a larger scope. Me NOT transitioning isn't doing jack shit to solve anything in the grand scheme of things.
