I was speaking to a college FB coach from NY today. Every FTC football coach wants to better understand the difference between a sprint practice and a non-sprint practice. I’m getting better at explaining.

You can’t be at game-speed every practice. My advice is to have 3 “game days” per week. That means you need to back-off 3 times a week to play at your fastest. Let’s call these days “FUNDAMENTAL DAYS”. This is where you work on skills, game prep, and other low-energy pursuits.

On “Performance Days”, players arrive with a full tank (backed-off day before). Rest and recovery is essential to do every effort at top speed. Practice is choppy, not continuous. No conditioning. Moderate exercise never produces extreme results.
