Black families locked in the Berks family jail face structural disadvantages. An example @BridgetCambria8 gives: Not a single employee in the facility speaks Haitian Kreyòl, a major barrier for Haitians families getting the services they need
"That policies that are being levied against the families that we represent are entirely racist and directed towards certain countries," @BridgetCambria8 says.
One of the most relentless advocates I know is now speaking: @GuerlineMJozef, founder of the Haitian Bridge Alliance ( @HaitianBridge). "Families are in extreme despair," Guerline says.
"We know many of the families have escaped Haiti for their lives because of political issues," Guerline says.
(Historically, the US has supported multiple brutal Haitian dictatorships, often motivated by Cold War anti-communism.)

Guerline is now describing one Haitian family's harrowing journey to the US. The spent weeks in an hielera, a CBP "ice box" on the border, where they had no access to showers or tooth brushes, and slept in a room with multiple families.
44% of the families locked up in ICE detention right now are Haitian.
"Every single aspect of the immigration system is nasty, but the U.S. makes it especially nasty if you’re Black," says Joyce Louis-Jean in a pre-recorded video.

Nicole Morgan, a staff attorney for @RAICESTEXAS, is describing the brutal disillusionment Black asylum seekers experience when they arrive on the border. Black refugees face increased suspicion, disbelief, and apathy from this country's asylum and immigration system.
"Anti-Black racism is a systemic problem in immigration," Nicole Morgan of @RAICESTEXAS says.
