I was talking to my 17-year-old daughter and her best friend last night. My question: Why is your generation not taking COVID seriously? (1/8)
I anticipated their answers. Studies show they’re at lower risk. They don’t know anyone personally who has it. Cases are down in our state. That sort of thing. That’s not what they told me. (2/8)
They told me that COVID is yet another thing that incompetent adults have dumped on them. (3/8)
They’re part of the Lockdown Generation—they went to school every day worried they’d get shot. (4/8)
The climate is crumbling. Poverty is on the rise. A pathological liar runs the country and, if the GOP doesn’t grow some balls, may soon own it. (5/8)
In other words, they’re not afraid because they’re sick of being afraid. (6/8)
Some of them have given up—they want to live their lives as best they can while they can. Others want to rise up and fix the mess. (7/8)
I hope there’s more of the latter among them. Gen Z may be America’s last chance. (8/8)
