Lots of problems with this article https://twitter.com/TheCptBlackPill/status/1286421781117534208
First, the idea that there has to be a strong regional divide to bring on a civil war is false. In the last war, some of the most ruthless fighting was in mixed border areas like Missouri and Tennessee. There are plenty of civil wars that are city against city like Bosnia
Second, there is a strong regional divide in contemporary America. Sectionalism never went away. In fact, it has gotten worse, particularly on the West Coast. The regional divide is the coasts and urban archipelago against the interior of the country
Third, sectionalism didn't even cause the last war. It was a domino effect brought on by one state - South Carolina. Events in South Carolina led to a guerrilla war in Missouri where there had been no secession movement. There wasn't a mass movement to secede
Fourth, secession isn't necessary to have civil wars. Most civil wars in the world don't involve secession. All it takes is for fighting to break out and spiral out of control
Fifth, prosperity has nothing to do with civil wars. There was less misery in antebellum America than in Gilded Age America. At best, mass immiseration alone leads to radicalism like in the Gilded Age
Elite overproduction, fragmentation and fanaticism is the leading cause of civil wars. See the Russian Civil War and Spanish Civil War
When elites are openly fighting with each other that is when civil wars tend to happen. Contrast with the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921 when elites in West Virginia crushed miners
Can we imagine a scenario where state and local officials and national elites would defy federal authority and attack the federal government? Well, yes. It is a lot easier to imagine today than it was just a year ago
Can we imagine a scenario when a radicalized elite in one state could plunge the country into a national crisis? That's all it would take
Can we imagine the United States experiencing a fiscal crisis in a time of elite fragmentation and popular immiseration? Well, yes. That's very easy to imagine once the U.S. loses its position astride the world
In sum, all it would take is for a radicalized elite in one city or state to bring on a crisis that divides the country and forces people to choose sides. There are also far more sources of division in 2020 than 1860
Normies always get swept up in the maelstrom too. Everyone should be keeping an eye on current events. You should be anxious about it
