Reminded of a dinner party I attended not that long ago. Everyone was inebriated, myself included. I sat with the wives/girlfriends because I thought it would be wiser than conversing with the husbands (its a thing ... some women get jealous). https://twitter.com/mami_esq/status/1286110369723768832
Anyhoo ..... the wives/girlfriends table was great. Conversation was lovely. No one was outwardly hostile or condescending. To my knowledge, we were all at least college educated, and fairly successful in our fields.
At some point in the evening, some of the boyfriends/husbands drifted over to the table. A discussion about the nature of reality began. That's my jam. Philosophy. I love discussions re: metaphysics. Keep in mind we are all pretty inebriated. Them: cocaine. Me: cannabis.
This boyfriend guy, he's an "artist," starts talking about realism v. idealism. Cool. I know this stuff. I can engage in this conversation with confidence. And then I realize, this dude doesn't actually know what he's talking about. But I'm not going to say that.
I'm not interested in embarrassing this guy who clearly thinks he knows what he's talking about. The conversation then moves toward how we "know" things. Again. My jam. I brought up sapiential wisdom. He got a little quiet and then moved on and continued to "hold court."
In addition to being distracted by thoughts about how tiny his hands were, I began to see that he was not accustomed to being challenged because he just kept talking like he was an expert in metaphysics. I just mocked him in my mind and kept quiet for the sake of peace.
Maybe half an hour later, he's in the kitchen with his girlfriend, and I overhear him say to her, "Sapiential knowledge? I mean, what does that even mean." And they giggled like I was some sort of idiot. Truth is he is an idiot that uses big words he doesn't understand.
And as a petty aside that is totally irrelevant to him being ignorant .... his hands were really tiny, and I cannot imagine how his girlfriend can stomach having sex with him. The end.
PS: I love men with strong hands.
