1- Unpopular opinion (at least amongst conservatives)

Mike Pence did a bad job

Job 1 of the Coronavirus Task Force should have been demand normalized #Covid_19 data from States, distill into meaningful visual presentation (e.g. below👇🏼), then message the hell out of it.

2- We're nearly 6 months into this & yet:

-Data is all over the place
-Gunshot victims are counted as COVID deaths
-People confuse "reported" with "date of" death
-Policy gets driven by test results, not healthcare capacity
-Media cherry-picks junk data

(cont)
3- Also no one messages U.S. mortality context, e.g.

-50K+ die every week
-35K+ die every year in car wrecks
-Overall mortality has returned to normal levels👇🏼
-Etc.

Instead, narratives like "If it saves even one life" flourish, despite being nonsensical.
4- The Coronavirus Task Force should have hired the best data nerds + visual persuasion talent available, created views that tell the real story, & pumped that into the press conferences every day. Then the Media would have been forced to cover it / react to it.
5- Instead we got "We're making lots of masks & ventilators" & "We're building hospitals or sailing them in" without context around what we were solving for.

This is partially Trump's fault (the buck stops, etc.) but Pence could have armed him much better.
6- E.g. the "Return to School" debate should be a no-brainer. Put together charts / graphs that show #Covid_19 impact to kids versus the flu. Then put it up in a press conference. Force the Media to dispute the data (they can't). https://twitter.com/ITGuy1959/status/1286383173140611079
7- The only data we ever got out of the Coronavirus Task Force was Dr. Birx & her disastrous @IHME_UW models.

Ok, it was March, even that could be excused (maybe). But now it's July. We know a lot more. But...
8- ...Even today you too often must go to a gummy bear ( @gummibear737 ), a cat ( @boriquagato ), or other non-journo Twitter accounts to find information distilled to tell a meaningful story.

It should have been handled much better.
