Why is it so hard to get a test? Why does someone have to call around to find some place that's open, get screened, drive over, stand in line, get swabbed, get hit with an unexpected bill, and get the results 8 days later? 1/ #PIHchat https://twitter.com/nataliexdean/status/1286399113114693633
Testing has to be convenient, comfortable and free. And it shouldn't require inventing a test using new technology. This is all about logistics and coordination, which is really unsexy--and really hard. 2/ #PIHchat
Yeah, people want to make a CRISPR-based COVID test. But no one wants to work on shuttling swabs to a central laboratory in the state. Or bringing testing to schools or workplaces. That's public health 101. Bring the services to where the people are. 3/ #PIHchat
We need to fix the billing issues. Nothing makes a contact tracer more depressed than spending an hour convincing a contact to get tested, then later getting an angry phone call complaining about a bill for $180. 4/ #PIHchat
How about an app that shows where to get a test that's fast and free? Why are there a billion people working on digital contact tracing but no one working on apps like this? 5/ #PIHchat
Not that I would be unhappy to have a digital contact tracing app. Wasn't it April when the entire world was talking about Apple-Google? It's July. Can we have our app now? 😜 It doesn't have to be perfect. We can make it work. 6/ #PIHchat
Do you see a pattern here? To control COVID, we don't need to launch a radical strategy that no other country has ever tried. We don't need a completely new health care system. We just need to implement that centuries old public health playbook. And practice practice. END
