"We judge people and pretend to be offended faster than we unlock our phones."

Outrage has become a hobby for a lot of us in both Islamic conservative and secular woke settings. But careful: don't get outraged at the amount of outrage. We all have flaws. https://aryatra.com/why-we-outrage/
"We started picking on strangers. We found fault in what they did, and vented our ‘rage’. This ‘rage’ was nothing but the latent desire of retribution which now emerged."

Outrage is rooted in hurt and the inability to do anything about it.
"Social media provided the ideal platform. The media loved it. Since long, the media would doctor stories to prey on our obsession with negativity. Social media made manufacturing this easier and faster. Social media platforms can turn anything can turn into an outrage."
"There are times when outrage is warranted. Like heinous crimes, terrorist attacks, irresponsible behavior by public figures – injustices are valid reasons for anger. You get angry over what matters to you."

Even in Islam, anger with wrong is good. But to a degree.
"But how can we be mad-as-hell all the time? What does 24/7 moral outrage mean?

Athlete is draped with women – outrage.
Prime Minister's suit auctioned for huge sum – outrage.
Local gutter in town overflowed - outrage.
We outrage when we should really just ignore.
I personally think whoever is good at dhikr (remembering Allah) will also develop the ability to un-dhikr: to ignore things that are bad for your health.
"Positive news surrounds us. It’s right alongside the negative news. The Better India, Humans of New York, Love What Matters, Gives Me Hope, TED Talks, self improvement blogs… the list can go on and on and on. But we refuse to look."
"Replace FOMO with JOMO - Joy of Missing Out"
An outrage habit is rooted in feelings of inadequacy and lack of discipine in controling mind and emotion. The more we work on ourselves, and improve our ability to impact society, the less we will feel attracted to this emotion.
While reading this article and writing this out, I had to check myself: am I gonna be outraged by all the outrage?

Outrage is a better headline, but we all have flaws, and people have phases in life. It's better to have sympathy than anger.
