Kind of hopeful for Tell me Why. Dontnod have consultants working on it, and have generally been good in the past. Implied trauma origin story seems to be a read herring at the core of a mystery. Am going in hopeful, if cautious of some specifics.
My main point of caution is the vision flashbacks to before he was out as trans. Basically, I’m hoping that his sister uses the right pronouns in the present, when talking about the past. That’s the main thing I’ll be looking out for up front.
Hoping the “actually mum wasn’t trying to kill her trans kid” thing the trailer implies comes really early. The quicker we can get the implied trauma origin out the way, the better.
But yeah, going in cautious but hopeful. I love Dontnod games, and even when I find some emotionally tough, I still find them very emotionally valuable. Will for sure stream it when it’s out x
Ohhhh, won’t load on my phone, but Dontnod has an FAQ addressing topics like if the character will get deadnamed at any point, is the Mum transphobic etc. That’s great news. Will read those after diner. https://www.tellmewhygame.com/faq/
Okay, trans man Tyler is not deadnamed at any point in the game, for any reason, even with him being shown in game pre transition. He will at some points in game be called Ollie, the first name he picked out for himself, but never deadnamed.
Light spoilers - Tyler's mother is not transphobic. Despite trailer implications, apparently she was supportive of his transition, and will be shown in flashbacks trying to be affirming and supportive.
RE Transphobia faced in game by Tyler, he will face some transphobia in episode 1, but from then on the rest of the series will exclusively show Tyler respected by others in his identity. The ep 1 transphobia will not include deadnaming, and will be from antagonists.
Tyler will apparently be shown to have been out as trans before the traumatic events that instigate the game, to make clear that his transition was not caused by childhood trauma.
Okay, big end of the game spoilers so be warned...

Every ending for Tyler will be optimistic, regardless of your ending. You can apparently play this game confident in the knowledge there's no depressing traumatic tyler ending you might accidently get.
Okay, clearly I have not played the game, but a lot of what is said in this Q&A sounds like the right things are being said.

I will note, while they promise no deadnaming, they don't promise no misgendering,. That MAY happen in episode 1's transphobia scenes.
But yeah, that Q&A makes me a lot more confident to try this game out. At the very least, i know when the transphobia is confined to, and that they're avoiding specific things, like unecessary deadnaming.

This seems promising. I am hopeful based on this info.
