Let me explain this a bit.
Google shares some APIs across apps. So, an API hosted on youtube domain could be needed while authenticating your site on analytics.
This is what happened when YouTube was blocked, a lot of other Google apps stopped working properly. https://twitter.com/worqas/status/1286205251591249920
Every time you had to do a thing that used Youtube hosted API, you would have to use a VPN. Even if we forget the fact that Youtube is providing hundreds, if not thousands of jobs, Google IS enabling hundreds of thousands of jobs in Pakistan. Those will face issues too.
As for gEoStRaTeGiC sHiFt.
China could and China did create its own INFRASTRUCTURE.
They made everything.
An app is not just the app that is on your phone.
It includes cloud servers where the APIs are hosted. It includes frameworks, tech, and libraries used to make the app.
China made everything. The made their own search engines to frameworks. They created critical internet infrastructure that enables a broad spectrum of online activity from business to studying to buying/selling. Thousands of man hours went into that.
They have even finally started making their own microprocessors.
Making the internet secure does not mean mAkInG oWn sOcIaL mEdiA aPps for gEoStRaTeGiC sHiFt. It means making own critical infrastructure from scratch. It means making your own chips and own telecommunication setup.
It means making your own search engines and own marketplaces AND own frameworks to make those marketplaces. This is how it works. You cannot make Alibab on Magento. Well, theoretically you can but a country that cannot make Magento cannot make Alibaba.
Also, what made China's indigenous tech revolution possible? I mean besides thousands of tech graduate, a booming industry, a government with vision, billionaires willing to invest in own country.
Yes: a huge market.
A huge market that u get by eliminating poverty.
Priorities.
