Illustrators — let's talk about (our) money. This is a thread showing a whole bunch of work I've been paid to do — next to the sign-off rough, the deadline length and how much I got paid for it. (I made this presentation for a group of students last year). 1/9
I present these without judgement (remember, I took on all of these jobs) and I plan to share what I get paid for any work I post publicly moving forward. I'm nervous about this for lots of different reasons but if it helps others then it's my responsibility. Let's go: 2/9
NPR — Editorial — Very consistent with deadlines and pay (also v lovely to work with) 3/9
NYT — Editorial — Varies a bit but mostly in the same area. The 'wedding guests' one was animated so cost a bit more. 4/9
The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts — Internal Comms — This was all for one job (not that amount for each individual one). 5/9
Wired — editorial — These were *two separate* jobs, unlike that last one. 6/9
Airbnb — Website banners (advertising?) — The one in the middle included two images (one isn't shown here). The two higher paying ones here required the sale of full copyright. 7/9
Atlassian — Tech / Editorial — The fee was for both of these images; also full copyright. 8/9
The end! This is a small selection but it shows the kind of variety I've come to expect. This was spurred by chatting to a friend about the ethnicity and gender pay gaps which are also very present in our industry. I hope this kind of transparency is helpful! Ask for more! 9/9
The friend I was chatting to is @ElyssaRider! She’s also an illustrator and is always fighting for what’s right 💪 go follow her!
