Access to high-quality, affordable child care is an important part of Alberta’s economic recovery – especially for women and single parents.

That’s why I was so proud today to announce our government’s newest investments in child care.

Thanks to a new $45-million funding agreement with the federal government, we will invest these child care dollars in three key areas:

+ Affordability
+ Accessibility
+ Quality

(2/6)
On affordability - we are increasing subsidy amounts for parents of 28,000 low-to-middle income parents.

A single mother earning $60K with a toddler in licensed child care will receive $354 more every month to help afford child care.

(3/6)
For accessibility - we will create the new Inclusive Child Care program that will provide more support for children with complex needs.

We will also create up to 385 new spaces this year in communities with high demand for child care.

(4/6)
To improve quality - we will make the Flight curriculum, an evidence-based learning framework, available online and free of charge to all 2,900+ child care centres in Alberta, should they choose to use it.

Under the NDP, it was only available to 122 hand-picked centres.

I want to thank @HonAhmedHussen for respecting Alberta's new vision for child care and for working with us to invest in Alberta’s children and our recovery.

These investments will help Alberta power through this economic recovery and emerge stronger than ever before!
