Happy 35th birthday to Into The Groove!
If my Covid-impaired memory serves, this song accidentally and unofficially became Warner’s biggest selling single to date in 1985.
What had happened was someone put together clips from DSS and made a music video using the mono 8-track recording that was in the film.
With that video in heavy rotation on MTV, Warners asked me for the stereo version to release and — oops, there wasn’t one!
We scrambled to record a multi-track and Warners released it as a B-side with “Angel” in the States, hence the “unofficial” status. At 35, ITG is at least an official oldie now!
