when impact and unit economics/economies of scale get conflated

this means "when u help us reduce cost per customer (by increasing # of customers w your work) u r valuable to our company"

contrast with https://www.robinsloan.com/notes/home-cooked-app/ and see which is a better definition for yourself https://twitter.com/freialobo/status/1286297073319583750
if you like the idea of scaling costs that's great! or if you're drawn to making popular things

then the challenge is to reconcile the tradeoffs of working at scale. what is necessary to give up (individual care, solutions that work for everyone)
I think a lot about how Lays chips has local branches develop flavors for each country but tech cos don't bc the unit economics of tech don't reward that

fb used to have "project japan" to create a local optimized hyper dense version - I always hoped more countries would happen
I always think about if a lot of people will like or use the things I make, and that's bc I enjoy validation (who doesn't) but it's also because I've been trained to think about things like user acquisition and the idea that certain things "aren't worth it" without scale
also AI to reduce unit costs is not the same as "boosting human potential" no matter how many VCs say it is https://twitter.com/xuhulk/status/1286321128311533569
another good thread to help reevaluate the word "impact" for yourself https://twitter.com/dantaeyoung/status/1285784568692461568
