My #COVID19 experience taught me that asking our essential workers (food service industry, grocery & farm workers, trades and educators) to shoulder burden of opening our economy w/out giving them a systematic way to access testing AND results is absolutely unfair & unjust 1/ 🧵
We are, once again, asking many low-income families and people of color who work in the food service industry or as grocery store clerks to pick up and carry the ball for us after it’s been dropped by state leadership. 2/
If exposed to the virus, many of these workers will have to go without pay for weeks on end without a test result to prove to their employer that they can return to work, putting them and their families at risk of financial ruin. 3/
Or we’re saying get a test and don’t worry about the result go back to work if you don’t have symptoms knowing how dangerous and deadly asymptomatic spread of the virus can be for our community. 4/
And that is completely immoral and unjust. State leaders must put the testing systems in place to give protect our essential workers and provide people the confidence to reopen the economy. 5/5
