I want to add that we know how to do this. It’s so bizarre that our historical memory is so short and so narrow. Basically we are saying mash together Hebrew/Greek/Afrocentric school with some Pop Warner and extract cram school. And pay for it.

All of these extra-institutional program models have existed for a long time. They are usually positioned as contra formal school but they can BE school because “school” is whatever we agree that it is.

Yes I know this is race and class but that’s my point. Well-to-do white parents, in particular, are faced temporarily with the same choices others have navigated forever. Maybe they could school like Black people or immigrants for awhile.
