Hidalgo County (McAllen) continues to be one of the biggest hotspots in Texas for COVID-19 deaths. Hidalgo and Nueces (Corpus) both saw deaths triple in two weeks.
This explains why the U.S. Dept of Defense has sent emergency military teams to the Rio Grande Valley over last few weeks. Back on Tuesday Gov. Abbott held virtual meeting with Rio Grande Valley leaders to talk about the situation.
"The State of Texas will continue to provide the support and resources that Valley leaders need to protect public health and mitigate the spread of this virus," Gov. Greg Abbott said. "By continuing to work together, we will overcome this challenge."
