Most #PhlEd public speakers will be on reopening plan. But let's take a moment to look everything @PHLschoolboard will be considering tonight and at what cost. This mtg was just an entry on the Board's calendar until a few days ago--no banner, no announcement on social media /1
Many expected this special @PHLschoolboard to have few official items, to deal solely w/ reopening. But there are 26 Action Items on agenda. TOTAL District cost for all items approx $160 million. 1 item for behavioral health alone is $60 mil. Reopening plan $60-80 mil #PhlEd /2
For some reason, reopening costs not posted with Item on agenda. We must question why @PHLschoolboard waited until only 3 DAYS before mtg to post this extensive agenda--a violation of SDP settlement w/ APPS which says official items must be posted 2 WEEKS before vote #PhlEd /3
There were no @PHLschoolboard Committee mtgs this month, so the $160 mil in contracts/spending will be passed with almost no discussion. The Board will vote on 26 items in less than a minute through block voting. Government officials should not take advantage of a crisis /5
to quietly approve contracts for questionable items. How will all the PD $$ be spent when students & teachers not in school every day? Will consultants be allowed in bldgs? @PHLschoolboard should table most of these Items until at least August. Parents/educators/community /6
have a right to know how Board is spending money. Free-marketers say "never let a crisis go to waste". #Phled students/families deserve better. /E @positv_slope @teacherinphilly @MaddieLuebbert @DianePayne20
