The race & class issues brought up by these pandemic pods are something else. A white neighbors offered a young Black woman, who we have known forever and who works with our son, a full-time home schooling position but told her that she couldn't continue to work with our family.
They also told her that she couldn't go grocery shopping and she would have to have groceries delivered. Also, she would not be allowed to get her nails done.
Basically the mother told her, "Tell Uché that you can't work with her family if you're working with us."
Mind you, I'm the one who introduced this young woman to the family when they family was looking for someone to watch their child for date nights.
Fortunately, this young woman, who gave me permission to post this, asked around and realized these requests were absolutely ridiculous and decline the job offer. But the race and class power dynamics were on in full force in the interaction.
Sorry for all the typos in this tweet thread, I'm pissed off for this young woman.
