I saw this report but haven't had time to dig through it. A behind the scenes look from FBI intel reports explaining how the Swamp is fed by private hedge funds & investments.

The report uses some anonymized examples of money laundering cases. I suspect we can connect the dots on some of these cases to the #ButNothingsHappening cases that have been going on over the past several years.
Crooks are using private equity & hedge funds to insert anonymous money into the banking & financial sectors to help launder it. These regulatory loopholes make it easier to hide the sources & recipients of money laundered through the system.
In order to arrange this, hedge funds accept money from off-shore havens where the true owners are concealed. Then bringing it into the US as part of the private fund which escapes regulations on banks & other transactions. #MoneyLaundering
"former partner of a major US law firm" sounds very interesting. Greg Craig? Gordon Caplan? I recall a few more resigning along the way...
A NY & London based hedge fund investing in shell companies to hide trading with companies under sanctions...
Doesn't say if these are Iran, Russia, North Korea or Magnitsky Act sanctions thought....

Looks like a New York-based private equity firm received
$100 million in wire transfers from Russian organized crime!

Here is a good breakdown on how these funds work.
Hedge funds buy stocks & bonds subject to SEC regulation. private equity firms handle investments in companies that are not publicly traded.

Hopefully these loopholes can be closed & until then DOJ bounties to whistleblowers can draw out mercenaries who want to get rich exposing their coworkers & bosses.
The impediments to investing through these funds don't stop the crooks, because the use of shell companies allows them to hide who really owns the assets & they are patient enough to launder the money this way.
I imagine the crackdown on bank money laundering over the past few decades have chased more money into these private funds.
Though it does have the advantage of driving money into the United States where DOJ has authority & leverage to go after the money!
