I've totaled up the amount of days spent in phase 1 and phase 2 of the MJO for the MJJ seasonal period from 1979 to 2020 (prelim through 7/20). I think the chart speaks for itself. Notice some heavy-hitters for the Atlantic tropical season see higher amount of days.
now here's the fun part! There is no statistically significant correlation between the amount of phase 1,2 MJJ days to ASO days. Also, the MJJ MJO days correlate significantly to the Atlantic tropical season while the ASO phase 1,2 days do not.
