Over the past few months I've unintentionally started a grassroots organizing group and a ... FaceBook page. I've learned a few things over that time related to both social media and music. 1/5
First, let me just say: Social media is hard. Smarter folks than me struggle to find the right balance, and I’ll readily admit that I’m continually learning and trying to do my best. 2/5
Also, I’m a musician by trade (not a communication director or community organizer or anything like that), and I always tell my students (and kids), “Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes better.” 3/5
As a musician (and human) I’m a big fan of practice. If we aren’t constantly practicing (the fundamentals as well as more advanced music/civics) we will never be better. Thinking we are so good at trombone or whatever and that we no longer need to practice is folly as well. 4/5
I’m here (on social media, in my community, in the music studio) to learn, and to practice being better. 5/5
