Why I have decided to leave the Greens:

I said it several times that if they went in with FG I’d walk. FG voted to let migrants drown, and at home their housing policies have caused people to become homeless at an alarming rate, to the point that the deaths of homeless
people on the streets are barely news items any more.

There is no dignity in that, and there is absolutely no way I could back a party that would gloss over that, and the myriad other ways FG has destroyed this country.
FF, on the other hand, have been so welcoming to members who campaigned against MarRef, and who voted against repeal. FF economically ruined this country in the past, and have not showed significant signs of changing. I do not trust them and I cannot be in a party that would.
The Greens are not blameless here either. During this bitter PfG debate I have seen members harass younger members, particularly women, for daring to oppose it constantly, then having the absolute audacity to turn around and say “I wonder why the party is so divided.”
The party has glossed over absolutely appalling conduct from elected members, like the leader saying a slur in the dáil, like people trying to suspend a “bold” councillor for talking to the press, like a TD leaking the results of a monumental vote via an emoji.
There is a thread of sexism, ageism and classism in this party that you’ll see if you stick around long enough to be bullied, and I’m tired of it.
For a party that allegedly cares about equality, fairness, and justice, we sure have been quick to prioritise speeding limits on motorways over child poverty, hare coursing, healthcare inequality, and homelessness.
I harp on about having a masters in political science ( #HireMe) a lot, but here’s the thing: none of FFFGs solutions to any of the above problems work. If they did they would be working by now. Their climate policies are unjust, unsustainable, and ineffective.
The greens will not achieve anything of note on climate in this government, in my opinion, so what is the point in subjecting myself to such a toxic environment?

The PfG promised nothing and will deliver less, and I cannot endorse such a woeful plan at all.
I’d like to thank people like @saoirse_mchugh, @LornaBogue, @unapower, @hazechu, @RBOSull, @oliver_moran, @TateForTD, @taragilsenan, @theRascalCook , @LiamQuaide and many more for trying to make this party a better one, and wish those staying on all the best in that.
As for those leaving with me, thank you for giving it your best, I’ll be there to help ye with whatever comes next if I can.

I personally am going to continue to throw myself into union work, and will campaign for what I believe in, regardless of party politics.
In sum: fuck FG + FF. The young people of Ireland deserve better than this. The people of Ireland deserve better than this.

(Also join a union because we aren’t gonna get a living wage with a minister literally asleep at the wheel.)
