I CAUGHT THE COVID!

Finally I have the guts to admit I got exposed to the novel coronavirus christened Covid 19. I have racked my brain on where I could have been exposed and I honestly don't know.
It has been a journey to the proverbial hell and back and I was on the edge. What started as a slight cough and mild fevers and chills had me on antibiotics and cough syrups and paracetamol.
No improvement and I decided to do the dreaded swab with the advise of the doctor who had prescribed the earlier meds.
That was on 1st July and the following day I get the results and my whole life is doing a dance in my head. (Immediate isolation in my bedroom where I have been stuck for the past 22 days) I also notified people that I had interacted with prior just as a precaution.
Then the fevers got worse with bucketfuls of sweat when sleeping. Then the headaches. Then everything tasting like soil due to a dry mouth and throat and had to drink water to swallow. The cough worsened.
The least exertion like walking three meters to the washroom had me on the floor totally out of breath and coughing till my stomach muscles hurt like hell. Taking a shower became an uphill task and had to severally get the aid of my spouse (bless her)
At some point I got delirious and felt like someone was kneading my physical brain like dough. This is one experience I cannot even explain to be honest. I think I was mad for a while or something.
When sleep checks in I had the weirdest dreams and made sounds that woke up my wife from the kids' bedroom (I doubt she was sleeping anyway 😭)
This probably had nothing to do with Covid 19 and maybe more to do with the stress and emotional strain of not knowing how to deal with something totally novel and with no known medication.
With the help of my wife and employer who ensured I had medical and psychological support at all times on call I settled into my bedroom with my two little girls totally banned therein.
We have been speaking through the door with a few glimpses as their mum handed me food or whatever I needed. Warm fluids, fruits, lemon and ginger concoctions and gradually the symptoms went down.
Did a retest on 17th and though the results came after several days it came negative. I may not be out of the woods yet and will have to take another test to confirm, but that was the best news I have had in a long time. Family got tested as well and thankfully came out negative.
Our healthcare system as a nation and the shenanigans that come with it is something I will not discuss here. But I will tell you it is bad. For example MOH started calling on the 18th (after my last test) telling me that they have learnt I was exposed based on results from 1st..
It has been a long and reflective period that had me reflect on life decisions, friendships, lifestyle, you know the whole gamut. I have learnt valuable lessons.
Parting shot, guys let's take care. For those who say it is a hoax and do not know anyone who has been exposed, ask me. Stay safe, wash hands, sanitize, keep social distance.

PEACE!
