West Brom and their FPL assets in 20/21 (Thread) 💭

West Brom are back in the PL after getting relegated in the 17/18 season!

If you don’t watch the Championship like me and want to quickly now about their FPL assets for next season, here is a detailed walktrough...⤵️
West Brom’s Championship season 🥈

West Brom scored the 2nd most amount of goals and created the 2nd most amount of big chances in the league this season.

Their defense was the 3rd best with 45 conceded goals. They played a 4-2-3-1
during the season and it worked well ✅
Why a lot of West Brom players doesn’t currently look like they will be great FPL assets ❌

We always look for rotation proof players as FPL managers. Especially when it comes to newly promoted teams we have to have players that are almost guarenteed to start...
West Brom does seem to rotate their squad a lot which makes it hard for us FPL managers to find players to have in our squad from West Brom.

Anyway, here is a look at all the players that has started almost every single game since the restart and looks rotation proof:
GK: 🧤

Sam Johnstone
Projected price: 4.5

The former Man Utd keeper hasn’t missed a single minute this season. He kept 14 clean sheets (5th best) and conceded the 3rd least goals with 1 per game.

I think there will be better 4.5 options with stronger defences in front of them
DEF:s 🛡

Dara O’Shea
Projected price: 4.5

The only defender that seems to be rotation proof is O’Shea who have started all of the last 7 games, both as a right-back and left-back.

In those 7 games he scored 2 goals and 0 assists. His underlying stats doesn’t look great though
All of the other defenders, even the centre-backs seems to be rotated since the restart.

The centre-backs Hegazy, Bartley and Ajayi have all got quite a bit of playing time

The other full-backs Furlong, Townsend and Gibbs have also rotated too. O’Shea seems to be the safest.
MIDs: 🛡⚔️

In their 4-2-3-1 formation there are only 3 midfielders that are nailed on since the restart. The 2 CDMs in the captain Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers and which none of them are FPL assets at all...

The 3rd one is way more interesting however...
Matheus Pereira:
Projected price: 6.5

Championship’s assist leader, Matheus Pereira was the main man for West Brom this season. He scored 8 goals and 16 assists was 1st in the league in key passes per game (2.8). He started as a LW, CAM or RW and I think he will be very...
similar to Jack Grealish. He creates a lot of chances for teammates and takes a lot of shots outside of the box. Sometimes those shots and assists will succeed but he could become very streaky, just like Grealish was this season. I think he will be the best West Brom option. ✅
The other attacking midfielders (Phillips, Krovinovic, Grosicki) were all rotated a whole bunch while Diangana will return to West Ham from his loan spell at the club.

I don’t think any of them will become valuable FPL options unfortunately... ❌
FWD:s ⚔️

Charlie Austin started most of the games since the restart but was always subbed off early for Hal Robson-Kanu. Austin and Robson-Kanu scores 10 goals each but I wouldn’t recommend any of the strikers if they didn’t sign anyone new...❌
Conclusion: 🏁

West Brom doesn’t look near as good from an FPL perspective as Leeds does. With only O’Shea, Pereira and Johnstone being the only rotation proof players I think we won’t be seeing a lot of West Brom in FPL managers teams.
Thanks for reading and hopefully you learned something about West Brom. It looks to be a fixture to target when selecting your captain etc.

Good luck for GW38 everyone!! 👏🍀
