At the end of April Joe Anderson went public at his concerns of the Premier League continuing and subsequent threat to public health at Liverpool fans being unable help themselves gathering. The club and SOS pushed back strongly, as did all their fans.
Liverpool won the league in June and that very night there was a large scale gathering just as Anderson had predicted. Token responses from club and SOS followed. The very next night there was an even larger scale gathering at the Pier Head. The Liver Bulldings were set on fire.
The Dixie Dean statue was then vandalised with wreaths underneath and around it in broad daylight. There was condemnation of this and those who committed it but not the culture of non accountability around it that enabled it.
Liverpool then lifted the cup and for a third time there was a large scale fan gathering, like all the other times public health was risked and key workers had to clean up vast amounts of litter (risking their own health) the following day.
All the self appointed fan groups and influencers were very vocal in attacking Liverpool’s Mayor for prioritising public health and saying this would happen to threaten it. Nearly all these same people went very quiet and turned a blind eye to all the above behaviour.
Scousers were put at risk, city landmarks were damaged, our reputation was further damaged by an eager national press. Tropes about kopites were confirmed. Any of those involved or turning a blind eye were proven that their prior concern about key workers was a token gesture.
Joe Anderson was right and a brave enough leader to try and preempt it. Until this is called out and those involved and turning the other cheek take accountability then it will continue to happen and damage the scousers and the city itself.
Ahahaahahaha, cry more, bitter, number 19 lad, etc.
