Dr Alastair Stark tell us that public inquiries should take place when there are moments of serious rupture and should aid public understating and healing.
Jason Beer tells us that there may need to be more than one inquiry focusing on different aspects of the Coronavirus crisis and Government response.
. @Emma_Norris says there may need to be a rapid non-statutory inquiry to do a lessons learned inquiry ahead of second wave and then a longer term statutory inquiry into the overall response.
Alastair Stark tells us that the main purpose of an inquiry should be to identified lessons learned ahead of potential Coronavirus 2025 or 2030.
Alistair Stark says the choice of Chairman for the public inquiry is one of the most important aspects of ensuring a good thorough inquiry. He says they should be able to see beyond their own profession,
Jason Beer says that a judge can bring a lot of impartiality to a public inquiry, but they are better in fact finding inquiries. It may be better for the Coronavirus inquiry is someone with a social and political policy background.
. @Emma_Norris, tells us that while Judges make good chairs of public inquiries they tend to see the report as the end of the inquiry, other chairs have tended to be better at focusing after the report on the implementation.
Our witnesses tell us that the best role for @UKParliament in public inquires is in ensuring the implementation take place
Jason Beer tells us that there is provision for a whole UK inquiry in the Inquiries Act, and for him it is essential that an inquiry looks across the whole of the UK rather than having four separate inquires.
Dr Alastair Stark tells us that an inquiry that looks and compares across the responses of the four governments of the UK is an essential aspect on a public inquiry
