Standards time! Today we’re excited to announce that @royalstatsoc and our partners are establishing industry-wide standards for data science. “Standards? What’s so exciting about standards?” I hear you ask. Let me tell you… (1/6)
We all know data science is a big deal right now. Employers want it; students & workers want to learn it; colleges & unis want to teach them. But there’s a shortfall, and there's confusion: what skills matter? Which courses are the real deal? (2/6)
(It's one thing to put 'data science' in the name of a course - another to ensure you're teaching the techniques and skills that students need and employers want.) (3/6)
This 2019 report from our partners @royalsociety sets out the situation nicely – and calls for a professional framework for data science and a system of accreditation for courses. https://royalsociety.org/-/media/policy/projects/dynamics-of-data-science/dynamics-of-data-science-skills-report.pdf?la=en-GB&hash=212DAE7D599B0A48687B372C90DC3FEA (4/6)
Today we’re setting that process in motion. We’ve been working with partners from business and research to develop industry-wide standards on the skills and ethical framework aspiring data scientists should be taught. (5/6)
In the coming months we’ll be rolling out new standards & accreditation to make this a reality, working with our partners @theorsociety, @bcs, @raengnews, @npl, @royalsociety & @imamaths. If you’re an employer or a uni/college/trainer who wants to be involved, get in touch! (6/6)
