If you can rewind @timesradio I believe @rosskempsell's piece on the Hong Kong British National (Overseas) Visa ran at 7.40 this morning. We discussed the likely cost of a visa application for a couple taking in to account the health surcharge and settlement and citizenship fees. https://twitter.com/rosskempsell/status/1286190748585676800
Although this seems really high (it is), it is a cheaper estimate than most other visa routes. From 1 October a partner of a British citizen will pay close to £9,750 on their visa journey from entry clearance to citizenship, and that's assuming they have no hiccups along the way.
A person granted a human rights visa (because making them leave the UK would breach their human rights) can expect to pay £14,200 for their 11 year journey to citizenship. A family of four human rights visa holders are looking at just under £60,000 over 11 years.
Forget about a deposit on a home or a summer holiday abroad, all savings must be diverted to the Home Office coffers as punishment for being unremovable due to strength of private/family life in the UK. HKBNO visa applicants will only get a small taste of this bitterness.
