Promoting unity through religious fervour--
Earlier Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated in homes.Tilak converted it into a public celebration in 1893 in order to promote public unity. He also started the Shivaji festivals to inspire people with patriotism. 2/7

Boosting the Swadeshi Movement--

Along with Ratanji Jamshedji Tata,
Bal Gangadhar Tilak founded the Bombay Swadeshi Co-operative Stores to promote swadeshi goods during early 1900s. Today, the store has become The Bombay Store. 3/7

Tracing the origin of the Vedas--

In 1903, Tilak wrote a book entitled 'The Arctic Home in the Vedas', which proposed that the Vedas were composed in the Arctic. Tilak strongly believed that 'Mount Meru' described in The Mahabharata was located in the North Pole. 4/7

The champion of #Swaraj --

Bal Gangadhar Tilak was one of the first activists who came up with the concept of "Swaraj".

At the Congress session in 1907,He roared like a lion, stating --"Swaraj is my birthright & I shall have it". 5/7

Inspired by his nationalist spirit, the masses called him #Lokamanya meaning the respected one.

#BalGangadharTilak also fought against social injustice like child marriage & gave a clarion call for widow remarriage. 6/7

The ultimate sacrifice--

Tilak was imprisoned on charges of sedition of the masses & was put under rigorous imprisonment for 18 months. In the prison he authored the book "Geeta Rahasya".

For the cause of nation he sacrificed his family,wealth, comforts, health & happiness. 7/7
