You may be wondering why the NZ Drug Foundation has been so high-profile abut the cannabis referendum. We know it’s raised a few eyebrows. Let me take the chance to set out where we stand.
Our responsibility to advocate for the strongest possible public health approach to alcohol and other drugs carries weighty obligations. Our services and advocacy affect the lives of thousands of New Zealanders.
We speak up for people, both past and present, whose lives have been impacted by drugs.
We have a duty to stand up for the laws, policies and actions that will do the best by all New Zealanders. We do this based on evidence, extensive consultation and nonstop collaboration.

Every day we work to fulfill the vision set by our founding Trustees, and by our current board.
Sometimes this work means taking a few knocks. Sometimes it means dealing with wild accusations. We are unafraid of debate.

A talented team are putting their heart and minds into ensuring this work is noticed.
I'm writing to acknowledge the support we've received in recent weeks. Both with regard to Advertising Standards Authority complaints about the On Our Terms adverts (which were entirely dismissed), and our PledgeMe fundraising appeal (we raised $153,372 - thanks friends!!).
These coming weeks are going to throw up more debate, more challenges and likely more dirty tactics. We will remain steadfast. Our vision of an Aotearoa New Zealand free from drug harm is our guiding light.
Please take the time to understand where we're coming from and why, and get behind our campaign for a Yes Vote.
It doesn't stop after September - we'll still need your support to achieve everything else we have lined up. Increases in funding for AoD services, treatment service innovation, and more.
But for now, let's get cannabis under control in Aotearoa, on our terms. https://onourterms.org.nz/
