I had a sweet conversation with these two, Aimee and Sara. I’d never seen clergy wear a helmet before so I stopped to chat. Aimee, right, is a chaplain and Sara is an Episcopal priest. #PDXprotest
“People who come to protests are spiritual in their own way, they believe in something bigger than themselves. They believe the world can be better, that they can have a role in that, and that they aren’t the only ones who matter.” - Chaplain Aimee #PDXprotests
Priest Sara: “There’s a big difference between violence and vandalism. Violence is toward people, vandalism is toward property. People who say those two are the same thing are devaluing human life.”
Aimee’s day job is as a chaplain at a hospital. She comes to protests after spending all day doing that!! She says it’s “energizing”
They said if anyone needs to talk, just find the clergy in the purple helmets.
