For a kinetic visual novel, Umineko has quite a deep understanding of game design when it comes to the mystery itself. And loves to subvert your expectations, as the simple act of trying to solve the puzzles yourself makes sense within the narrative and so much more
A lot of people complain about Battler being stupid for the most part of the run, but 1st he has to go through a character arc and 2nd He's meant to mimic the reader and for me ? It worked perfectly as I was as stupid if not stupider than Battler himself
The way each episode intoduces new mechanics and test them on you even going as far as giving you tools to better understand the mystery of previous chapters really is what kept me going through the narrative and on top of that, you get a really gripping family drama
But if it was just that, nope, it's so much more, the mystery is often spin on its head, your guesses always getting subverted by another layers of deepness, Umineko is just overall a flawed but absolutely brillant piece of litterature, and everything clicks together perfectly
I might not post about Umineko as much as I used to, but I'm always glad to see people going through it, cause if there's something more fun than reading Umineko yourself, is rereading it with the point of view of other readers. So yeah, the meme is real, Read Umineko
