Not that I am suggesting this in any way excuses anything but outrage is relative.

That's not a license to let politicians do whatever they want, methods be damned. It's a realization that many scandals are hyped beyond what they actually are but it's much harder to fake effective policy results.
Pierre Poilievre, for example, is not a bad MP because he took this free travel. In the greater scheme of things this is trivial compared to his complete lack of decorum, thoughtful ideas, honest discussion, or sound policy proposals.
