It is a day that ends in Y, so of course I am headed out to get shot at by federal troops. Tonight is famously the night mayor Ted Wheeler is showing up to attend ninety minutes of a protest. I am hearing he has already been chased by a chunk of the crowd.
Boy howdy this crowd seems rowdy. We may be in for a night of spice. Since the last like five nights have all been very spicy, this is admittedly not much of a prediction.
The crowd is projecting a series of demands on the wall of the Justice Center. I do not think Ted is going to like them.
Just a truly enormous gathering tonight.
The feds have replaced the fence around their embattled courthouse, and they have added a concrete vehicle barrier.
The crowd chants for Ted to "Resign now". The instant I press stop on the recording, someone to my left says "fuck Ted's personal space!"
The crowd chants "Tear Gas Teddy" and "War Crime Wheeler" as they demand Ted take to the stage and answer for his actions.
Here we see Ted Wheeler starting his walk of shame up to the podium under a hail of boos.
Kids are shooting fireworks at and throwing garbage into the front of the courthouse.
The feds have turned off the lights. That is generally a bad sign.
I am still out in front of the Federal Courthouse, where the feds just sallied out. They were forced back inside by, among other things, a man with a lacrosse stick.
Here we see the Phalanx repel a gas attack and advance to the wall.
Ted Wheeler's police have just declared a riot and warned us gas is coming.
