About that picture, btw, I didn't take it. My wife did while grabbing a pot pie from Hive for me. Me, I'm home, shivering under 3 blankets, trying to keep up a good face for my kids while my body aches and the regularly scheduled afternoon fatigue kicks my ass.
See, I should be lifting pints with @ZachOsterman right now, smoking stogies after @LFC raised the cup and telling stories about how terribly much @jasonlkennedy would've enjoyed this day. Instead, I'm waiting for my covid test results, & I'm pretty frustrated about it all rn.
3 people tested positive in my office in the past week. No calls from the health dept. notifying me of the repeated contacts we'd recently had. Hell, not even my employer gave notice, I had to hear it first from the grapevine. Our local system failing at the slowest time of year
I had to drive an hour+ to get tested 57 hours sooner than the next available appointment in Bloomington, the state's 7th largest city, home to IU, Cook, Baxter, IU Health, among others, and Catalent, where 100,000,000 covid vaccines will be manufactured right here in B-town.
This is also where 11k+ community school students are supposed to start classes in 2 weeks, and around 50k IU students are set to start classes in about a month. And yet still, 4 months after this goddamned virus arrived, our testing/tracing infrastructure remains shit at best.
But this is the horse we've saddled, and we've all been told to ride it headlong into the new school year. Health experts have made it clear from early on what we needed to do to flatten the curve (distance, test, trace, quarantine, mask), but our leadership- at every level-
has failed to put together an actionable plan to make it happen. Four. Fucking. Months. No nat'l pandemic plan, not enough testing, not enough tracing, PPE shortages abound, expiring support for the unemployed/quarantining. This is nothing short of madness, intolerable madness.
This ain't a red or blue thing, it's an American thing. And it's one of the most shameful chapters in our nation's history. Get in touch with somebody, anybody, everybody on your next ballot and ask them what the fucking plan is & when tf is it going to happen.
If you follow me, you obviously love IU sports. You probably love B-town, too. Plz understand that's all in grave jeopardy because we've fucked this up at every step along the way, and it sure seems like it stands to get a lot worse here locally real soon without better resources
I'm sick. I'm tired. I'm sick and tired of passing another day without more progress towards stemming this tide. Wash your hands, wear a damn mask, self assess every day, get tested/quarantine when necessary, but esp. demand more from our leaders. Everything depends on it all.

Thanks to all for the well wishes. My symptoms are mild. I'll be fine, my family will be just fine. I worry for those not equipped, physically or financially, to deal with this shit. I worry for our town, our school, our region, our nation. We deserve better.
