NFL Rookies have a $150,000 decision to make in the next 48 hours.

Time for a thread 👇👇👇
1) The NFL is giving players until August 1st to opt out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19 concerns.

Players who opt out will receive a $150,000 stipend for 2020. https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk/status/1284456810813038592
2) IMO rookie undrafted free agents should consider opting out of the 2020 NFL season to lock in their earnings through the stipend loophole.

Why?
3) Let's look at the facts. In a normal year..

- An UDFA receives a $1,000-$15,000 signing bonus.
- An UDFA has a 15-20% chance of making the team.

The problem? The 2020 NFL season will be anything but normal.
4) The percentage of UDFA making NFL rosters in 2020 is going to drop dramatically. Why?

- There will be no preseason games
- There are only 2 weeks of practice before regular season
- Coaches will stick with draft picks & veterans
- Other teams won't have enough film on UDFA's
5) Opting out of the 2020 NFL season doesn't end your NFL dream, it simply delays it a year - which you are compensated $150,000 for.
6) Don’t believe me on how difficult it will be for UDFA’s to make an NFL roster in 2020?

Take it from Geoff Schwartz who had an 8 year NFL career after making the practice squad his rookie year. https://twitter.com/geoffschwartz/status/1285356420087586818
7) To make matters worse, the NFL just announced that rosters need to be cut down from 90 to 80 before the start of preseason camp.

With 320 players to be laid off within days, this shortens an UDFA's timeline to make a decision by a week. https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1285702568157614083
8) So the question becomes, do you take the $150,000 stipend immediately and try again next year?

Or do you attempt to make the roster and potentially risk being cut within the next 48 hours for no compensation?
