You can really maximize your salary in short amount of time.
For your current position, you will need to do some market research on the average national salary and the local average salary.
Which market is best for increasing your compensation in a shorter amount of time? This will actually play a large role in getting closer, quicker. This might require you to consider relocating for a year or 2.
My advice to single people without children, is to be open to moving. That can be the difference between where you are now and where you’d like to be.
Glassdoor is NOT a good resource for compensation research, like at all.
The best way, is to have conversation with people in your field, read those surveys, use http://salary.com  and the DOL compensation data.
We all know that certain cities pay more than others, so consider looking into those areas. Yes, they’re more pricey and yes, the comp is higher. However, when you leave, it gives you the leverage you need to negotiate for more.
After doing this research, figuring out your ideal comp to live, years of experience and skills, come up with a target range.
You will need to be firm on this range and on your minimum. Understand that it might take longer to find a job because of your range, that is okay.
Ask the Recruiter for the target hiring range and do not give out your range without knowing this information. Some companies cannot give you the number (FAANGMULA’s) to be exact. Most others, can.
Unless you feel like practicing or there are other opportunities, do not attend in-person interviews for role that pay lower than your target.
Get the comp information during the phone screen, when speaking to staffing agencies, make sure the Recruiter knows what you’re seeking, so that they only send your roles within your target.
While in your current role, do not be opposed to taking on additional tasks outside of your normal focus. Why? Because this makes you cross-functional, making it easier to ask for more money, when looking for a new job.
Additional skill sets will ALWAYS be more valuable.
The main key to getting the comp you want is KNOWING YOUR WORTH.
After doing all of this, please and I mean PLEASE always negotiate. In my current role, I wasn’t able to get the comp increase but I was able to negotiate a title change and 2 remote days per week.
So in conclusion what do you need?

Market Research
Taking on additional tasks
Ability to articulate accomplishments
Asking for what you’re worth
Never settling
Negotiate
Patience
