This is how Dems continue to enable Trump’s fascist takeover. To even pretend that the presence of these forces could be used in legitimate ways or that their very purpose isn’t to overstep whatever boundaries the city establishes is already giving Trump too much room to act.
Fascists do not care about your democratic norms, rules or boundaries. They seize power by stream-rolling over these things while their opposition continues to operate as though they are participating in a liberal democracy.
The main thing folks are missing right now—& it’s terrifying to observe—is how much fascists are enabled by folks’ desire to cling to the performance of normalcy even when it’s obviously no longer there.
The fascists have already made clear they have no intention to honor a democratic election or a peaceful transfer of power and yet liberals are still carrying on like this is a relatively normal election cycle.
That desperate desire to cling to the performance of normalcy instead of engaging in an actual, open resistance to the fascist takeover is all the space fascists need to seize power. This has happened many times before in history & it’s happening here now.
