Intersectionality in Sustainable and Ethical fashion discussions is important because:
• Most garment workers are POC living in developing nations, they have very little impact but suffer the largest consequences of environmental issues
• Ethical brands that use poverty porn to promote their ethical practice, but only thin white models to promote their product
• Many sustainable and ethical brands don’t have the size range or aesthetic range that non-sustainable/ethical brands have and cannot compete.
• Most consumers buying from fast fashion brands are unable to afford sustainable and ethical fashion and have few alternatives.
Sustainable and ethical fashion can seem exclusive and elitist when it should be for everyone. These issues do not exist outside the constructs of our society though and are deeper than just fixing the fashion industry.
