THIS THREAD IS WORTH YOUR TIME & MEANS THE WORLD TO ME:

Today is #GBMDay — the 2nd annual Glioblastoma Awareness Day. Glioblastoma is an extremely aggressive type of brain cancer with no cure. The survival estimate is 12-18 months. The 5 year survival rate is less than 7%.
More than 10,000 Americans alone die from glioblastoma every year.

It’s the most common malignant brain tumor and the most deadly.

The disease alters a patients sense of self and creates significant disabilities.

It can strike men, women, and children of any age or background.
When my mom was diagnosed in 2007, she was told she had 6 months to 1 year. She fought for 3.5 years.

She was always so active and full of life. She loved to go to the beach, stopped to smell the flowers, volunteered to help with every one of my plays and was a total soccer mom.
I say that not to share why my mom was the best (even though she really was), but to show that it could happen to any one of us or our loved ones.

I wouldn’t wish this disease on my worst enemy. But even if this doesn’t concern you today, it really might one day. You don’t know.
After she died, I had a doctor look me in the eyes and say that if there was more money behind Glioblastoma research, she‘d still be here.

That broke my heart. People who have brain cancer and future people who get it, need our help. Brain tumor research is grossly underfunded.
Thanks to the National Brain Tumor Society ( @NBTStweets) for all that you do.

Thanks to anyone who read this thread & decided to take action.

My mom is already gone, but we can still help stop others from having to lose someone in one of the most horrific ways possible. #GBMDay
