Perusing through Johns' run on Justice League and every time I revisit it I'm always kind of astounded and disgusted by how flagrantly bad it was, because its too confusing to entice new readers but also spits in the faces of established fans too, so what was the point?
Also it's the best example of Johns' worst tendency to have every single "event" within the series just be buildup to other future events rather than be stand-alone events that are good on their own merits.
Darkseid's first appearance is nothing more than a setup for Darkseid War (an event that wouldn't take place until 36 fucking issues later, 4 years after said appearance), then Green Arrow's there to setup to the JLA title, which exists to setup Trinity War--
--which exists to setup Forever Evil, which exists to setup Darkseid War, which existed to setup a nebulous event that was cancelled and then replaced with DC: Rebirth, which exists to setup Doomsday Clock, which exists to setup a slew of future events that may not even happen
