I've been doing a deep dive into GPT-3 and thinking about the downstream impact it could have on the media/content space.

Here are some of the most interesting things I've seen so far. (Thread) 👇
A blog post about GPT-3, entirely written by GPT-3 by @maraoz

Pretty convincing, and starts to hint at the possibilities.

Will AI disrupt the advice column? https://twitter.com/nicklovescode/status/1283740861260369920
A business memo on board member recruitment written by GPT-3 from @zebulgar

Could AI synthesize and summarize existing business writing to create case studies or process knowledge documents? https://twitter.com/zebulgar/status/1283927560435326976

GPT-3 + deepfakes = Masterclass disruptor? https://twitter.com/paraschopra/status/1284423029443850240
Another variation on the above, @mckaywrigley's "Learn from Anyone" demo (look forward to the app being available again) https://twitter.com/mckaywrigley/status/1284110063498522624
Using GPT-3 to ideate blog post ideas and generate product marketing copy by @siddharth87

Social media bots are about to get a lot more convincing (shudder.) https://twitter.com/Suhail/status/1284883524164583425
GPT-3 doesn't just summarize or synthesize information, it can also expand on an idea as shown by @jessems in response to @Plinz. Kind of crazy to think about. https://twitter.com/Plinz/status/1283211048145711104
And finally, GPT-3 generates new Seinfeld scripts via @ryanqnorth

A new spin on fan-fiction. https://twitter.com/ryanqnorth/status/1280501755067981826
These are all imperfect demos, for a technology that has only been available in closed beta to a small group of hackers and makers for a little over a month.

But they all point to some pretty incredible possibilities when applied to the content and media space.
Does this equal the end for journalists and content creators? Hardly.

As with any new form of automation or jump forward in technology, it will replace certain functions but open up new possibilities for creators.
I'm excited to see what other applications we will discover as the technology becomes more broadly available.

My prediction:

The most powerful use cases will combine real human expertise, judgement, and creativity with GPT-3's AI superpowers.
