I have a few questions re extended working hours.
Currently trials are supposed to start at 10am but many DONT because:
1. The government’s contract with many prisons requires that they need only get prisoners to court by 12 NOON [THREAD]
Currently trials are supposed to start at 10am but many DONT because:

2.Jurors, who have commitments such as child care etc and commutes, sometimes struggle to get in by 10am
3. The incredibly poor state of the courts IT and low level of investment mean that there are often technological problems.
4. Criminal cases often involve those who make bad decisions, have mental health concerns or who suffer from addictions. Many of my clients struggled to arrive at court for 10. 8am is a pipe dream. And those in custody won’t be there till 12 ....(see above)
5. Have any of the people making these suggestions actually followed a criminal barrister to see what it is really like?
