Okay so... The Kanye discourse.

1. Grandiosity and delusions are symptoms of a manic episode for people with bipolar disorder.

2. While I agree that being mentally ill is not an "excuse" to be an asshole... Being manic turns you into an asshole sometimes. It really
Does. I've done horrible things that I'm not proud of when I'm manic.

3. Yes, it's nobody's responsibility but the person with bipolar disorder to manage their mental illness - but it's very hard to notice something is actually wrong when you're manic unless you're VERY
Self-aware because to be honest, half the time it feels like you're on top of the world and you're the best person ever and you don't want to listen to anyone else or come down from that high.

4. Managing your health when it comes to bipolar disorder is not linear. Meds can
Stop working for you, you might never have found meds that worked in the first place, your meds could be giving you debilitating side effects so you've stopped taking them. It's not just as simple as "well if you have bipolar disorder, just take your meds".

5. I'm not trying to
Excuse his actions I'm just trying to shed some light on bipolar disorder here. Instead of making accusations or assumptions it's probably a good idea to use this news story to read up on bipolar disorder and the symptoms people have during a manic episode. I guarantee you that
You probably know at least one person with bipolar disorder, they just don't feel comfortable disclosing it with you. It's good to be aware of these things and educate yourself on what mental illnesses outside of depression and anxiety look like.
If you've recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or have a friend or family member with bipolar disorder who you'd like to help / understand more, this book is an EXCELLENT resource! It really, really helped me learn more about my illness when I was first diagnosed.
