this is just me talking, but when it’s this much easier for straight people to believe bi women exist than bi men, the other side of the “no men are bisexual” coin is “all women are bisexual.” when biphobia targets bi men, it harms all women as well (1/8) https://twitter.com/genderintell/status/1285590305085980672
one of the functions of biphobia is to divide bi men and bi women from forming a coherent bisexual community. bi men are marked as “confused” gay men, and bi women are marked promiscuous/greedy women who have to “pick a side,” usually straight (2/8)
(sometimes the reverse happens, as in fiction tropes where promiscuous male bisexuality serves to reinforce the character’s sexual dominance rather than to explore new narratives of romance, eg Jack Harkness, Rick Sanchez, many many vampire/supernatural characters... i digress)
if bi men are either confused gay men or occasionally, overpoweringly horny straight men, what does that say about male sexuality as a whole? and what does it imply about female sexuality? (4/8)
these two male bisexualities, either “straight” or “gay,” map onto the gender binary in service of a patriarchal distinction between normalized and deviant male sexuality. again, this is just me talking, i might very well be full of shit but i’m lost as to what to read up on(5/8)
that said, as patriarchal male attraction demands reciprocity, the same narrative that erases bi men fetishizes bi women to the extent that any and all women are rendered bi (6/8)
when all women are bi, bi women are denied queerness & legitimacy in w/w relationships, lesbians are subjected to compulsory heterosexuality, and straight women can be compelled to perform w/w attraction, all for the sake of straight male gratification/sexual dominance. (7/8)
maybe some day i’ll talk about where bi n-b’s fit in the ouroboros of this whole binary gender-sexuality paradigm but i gotta be done clumsily articulating my hastily thought out feelings on bisexuality for today (8/8)
