fur shaving tips thread ? đź‘€
first off, here's what I use to shave:
Andis ultraedge AGC2
slicker brush
handheld vaccuum
filter taped to a box fan
3m half face respirator with p100 filters
I HATE being covered in fur. I find the boxfan and filter trick works really well to suck up a lot of the small pieces. I also vaccuum constantly while I'm shaving. it's otherwise sensory overload. so please wear a mask pleaaase!!!
step 1: I trace the pieces in the fur with at least a 1 inch gap. it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a clean shave close to the edges, I don't even try. whatever little fur it wastes is 100% worth it
step 2: I shave with th direction of the fur. I never use a guard, I just don't like them. most important to not balding your fur is to keep the trimmer FLAT to the ground, like this. tilting it forward will cause it to dig into fur
ok ! ran it forward a few times, this gets rid of a lot of length, but it's still not short enough. between each pass of the trimmer I brush roughly with the slicker, it helps fluff out the still long pieces. now, here's the tip that changed my life...
brush the fur backwards and shave it. seriously ! shaving this takes some practice, you can really bald the fur if you're shaving and tilt the trimmer the wrong way, but its life changing once you know how to do it !!
ran it backwards a few times, brushed it forward, ran it a few more times. there you go! short and smooth. it takes practice but tips can help !! also I recently shaved an entire yard this way :)
final note: this is just a pre-shave ! I do end up shaving a bit more once the head is glued, usually just touch up spots and spots that need to be really really short (like around the muzzle)
