When I see people defending #TrumpsThugs & the #PortlandKidnappings, there's a heavy reliance on the word "they": They're antifa, they're rioting, they're out of control, they don't deserve Democracy. "They" is us, #Americans Americans. Mothers, fathers, elderly, children, vets.
It's necessary to the dehumanization to imagine "they" are somehow deserving, of having hands broken, tear gas, batons, punches, being shoved into unmarked rental vans, violence...Def. a page out of McCarthyism, among other moments in history, shouting "Commie" now "Antifa!"
People who are #racist are predisposed to dehumanizing the imagined "other," b/c that's the central tenant of racism, and again, same with #misogyny. Also people who are scared and stay home and watch TV and assume they know what they're being told.
Trump is weaponizing fear, of course, because he is an #abuser, and abusers thrive on inciting fear--fear of anything, from losing health insurance, to poverty, to the "other" gaining ground (humanity?) Those who defend him are falling prey to his abuses, making them their own.
The most dangerous time is when a person tries to leave an abuser, and this nation is ready to get Trump out. He knows it. So he is lashing out, and he will do serious harm. #Malignant #narcissisticabuse
