An important thing to remember when you're making art is that what you're drawing/painting/sculpting isn't literally the thing you're drawing/painting/sculpting/etc.
I first learned this from an article by Art Adams, but it's the whole "The Treachery of Images" idea...

I got a comment on this pic of Raven about 2 years ago that said "that's not what breasts in clothes look like". I didn't reply, because it'd be pointless. Though it's true: These aren't what breasts in clothes look like, because these aren't breasts and these aren't clothes.
In cartooning it's more about how an image feels. It's never gonna be a perfect representation of reality. Unless you're a photorealist, which... good luck to ya.
(also funny how someone is bothered by clothes but not grey skin, purple hair, lack of shadows/pores/blemishes/etc)

"...this isnt' really a slice of bread. It's a drawing of bread. So you don't actually have to eat it. Your job is simply to convey a sense of reality in whatever object you're illustrating. This is a drawing. Not photography."
(I'd like to add that "sense of reality" may vary based on genre/tone/context...)
Also I can't believe I found this online!

"WhERe is HEr SPIne?! WhAT aRE heR ORGans?!"
Drawings don't have spines or organs. Not even drawings of spines are actually spines.

I dunno. Maybe some people just can't separate images from reality. Fortunately I've never had that problem...
If you WANT to render images in a Photo Realistic style (which was something people started doing in the 1960s) then that's fine, just try to keep art in context, especially if you're gonna start criticizing other artists.

But despite how realistic the objects in the previous image look...they're still only images. Treacherous Images! *shakes fist*
Speaking of that, I should probably get back to drawing. (here's a totally 100% realistic painting of a Very Real Woman that I did ... heh heh
